“The LEDs offer a colouring rending index (CRI) of more than 90, the highest CRI currently available for automotive applications,” according to the company, which confirmed that all product, regardless of colour temperature, can achieve this colour rendering.
The underlying technology is InGaN-on-sapphire, with what looks like an extended-red phosphor in the mix. Operation is over -40 to 110°C.
Applications are foreseen replacing halogen lights in automotive interiors.
“There are still some cars using halogen bulbs for one or other of following applications: reading light, glove box illumination, luggage room illumination, eventually also for make-up-mirror illumination,” a company spokesman told Electronics Weekly. “All of these applications can obviously also be implemented via leds. That is what we predict for the future.”
